Car Torque: Mercedes: We’ll be No 1 next year
Mercedes-Benz New Zealand general manager Ben Giffin says the addition of two new SUV models will take the brand to No 1 in the luxury market next year.
That’s a bold claim, as it’s been strictly a two-badge race in recent years. Audi claimed top spot from BMW back in 2007 and held it until 2012, when BMW took back the lead. The margins have always been narrow between the top two, with a clear No 3: Sales for 2013 were BMW 1910, Audi 1821 and Mercedes-Benz 1482.
