Fonterra's guilty plea may put the acid on AgResearch

Fonterra’s intention to plead guilty to four charges laid by the Ministry for Primary Industries may assist Danone’s lawsuit against it and spark further legal action against AgResearch, academics say.

Yesterday, charges were filed in Wellington District Court against Fonterra, alleging four breaches of the Animal Products Act.

The charges stem from MPI’s investigation into events leading up to Fonterra’s precautionary whey protein concentrate recall last August; if convicted, Fonterra may be subject to a fine not exceeding $500,000.
