Major opposition parties remain coy on nationalising assets

Political parties which vehemently opposed National’s partial sale of state-owned assets are not going to back that rhetoric with action if they form a government after Saturday’s election.

Labour, the Greens, and New Zealand First all bitterly opposed the sale of 49% of MightyRiverPower, Genesis, Meridian Energy, and Air New Zealand, and went to the extent of organising a referendum against the sale of those shares. That referendum saw two thirds of those who voted go against National’s policy.
