Newspaper cleared of contempt over Banks digi-poll

The solicitor general says the NZ Herald’s publication of a poll relating to John Banks’ case was “unwise” but will not pursue the matter further.

Following the High Court at Auckland’s finding that the former Act MP was guilty but before sentencing, the newspaper ran an online poll asking if Mr Banks should be discharged without conviction, and what the penalty should be.
