Is NZX too distracted by IPOs to enforce market rules quickly?

NZX should hire external contractors if it can’t meet enforcement timeframes, high-profile investor Aaron Bhatnagar says.

NZX’s regulation arm still has three continuing investigations into events more than a year old, today’s National Business Review print edition reveals.

The market operator and regulator says it is prioritising what it calls “legacy” cases but Shareholders Association chairman John Hawkins says the enforcement regime is not working quickly enough and it is actively pursuing the issue with NZX and the Financial Markets Authority.
