SUBSCRIBER-ONLY POLL RESULT: Should the government have upped its rebate from 15% to 25% to secure the three Avatar sequels?

A majority of NBR ONLINE subscribers polled say the government is right to increase the level of rebate paid to foreign film-makers.

The government and two Hollywood film studios have made a deal for James Cameron to make three more Avatar films in New Zealand at a cost of up to $500 million.

It will mean lifting the rebate to meet similar inducements offered to film-makers in other countries. Avatar is the biggest grossing movie of all-time and most of it is computer-generated in a film studio.
