SUBSCRIBER-ONLY POLL RESULT: Was John Banks' sentence too harsh, about right, or too light?

More than half of NBR member subscribers polled believe John Banks' sentence was too harsh.

The former Act MP was sentenced on Friday to two months’ community detention – with a 7pm curfew four nights a week – and 100 hours of community service, for filing false electoral returns.

Mr Banks did not apply for a discharge without conviction but told waiting media outside the High Court of Auckland that he would bring new, compelling and unimpeachable evidence to an appeal.
