Editor's Insight: Aussies on right path with power privatisation

Like Labour in New Zealand, the state government of New South Wales has a plan to keep electricity prices down.

But rather than nationalise it, NSW is going to privatise the power system after a receiving a report that says prices have fallen where states have privatised and risen where the electricity industry is owned by the government.

The report, by EY and commissioned by the NSW Treasury, is based on electricity transmission and lines costs rather than generation, which is Labour's favoured target. (See report attached)
