Labour leader Phil Goff will announce at midday whether his party will stand a candidate in the upcoming Te Tai Tokerau by-election.
The party's national council met last night to discuss the issue and Mr Goff is to inform his caucus of its decision this morning.
Yesterday, Mr Goff said should Labour decide it would contest the by-election, it had a strong candidate in Kelvin Davis.
There was a real will at a local level in the electorate for Mr Davis to stand, Mr Goff said.
