Lock up your daughters…lawyers are being pushed into selling real estate.
Before cracking jokes about the coupling of two of the top rating jobs on various “Who do you trust least?” scales, step back and take a deep breath.
New Zealand Law Society president Jonathan Temm said it was open to lawyers to begin marketing and selling real estate and he encouraged them to get into the game.
“There are some real opportunities out there,” Mr Temm enthused, noting 23 law firms already sold real estate.
His comments – marking two years of real estate selling by West Auckland lawyer-realor Rhonda Evans - were reported in the latest issue of the Auckland district law society’s LawNews.
In Scotland, 85 % of real estate was sold by lawyers, he said.
Ms Evans – who charged for real estate work on a time cost basis - said selling real estate through a lawyer was cheaper than paying real estate agents’ commissions.
As droves of real estate agents flee their game because of lack of property to sell, and lawyers reporting declining demand for their services, maybe the law society could open an Honest Johnny’s Pre-Loved Car Sales franchise.
