Living in the past: Windows 10 fails to update for end of daylight saving
A minor annoyance for some, a major problem for others.
A minor annoyance for some, a major problem for others.
When my Windows 10 laptop didn't update for the end of daylight saving time yesterday, I thought it might just be me. Everything seemed in order, with time and "adjust for daylight saving" settings set to auto, but you never know.
But checking in on social media this morning, I see the problem seems widespread.
Tech writers Bill Bennett and Steve Biddle say they have the same problem. Their Windows 10 devices are also living an hour in the future. And all of us have roiled through the latest Windows updates.
Software engineer Tom Isaacson adds that his Windows 10 phone had the wrong time, too, but that his Windows 7 laptop was correct (that last bit kills me).
I've asked Microsoft for comment on this issue, which will be a minor annoyance for some and a major problem for others who have time-specific events, alerts, reminders or actions set to trigger on their computer, tablet or phone.
Meanwhile, check your Windows 10 devices, and go into settings and manually update the time if need be.
When I was in the market for a new laptop recently, I was surprised to see that HP (the largest PC seller in New Zealand, and the world) offered business customers a Windows 7 downgrade by default. Microsoft must hate that, but this kind of malarky with Windows 10 won't help.
