The Ministry of Economic Development said many of its online services had been out of action all day.
"We are working hard to put it right," the ministry said.
The Intellectual Property Office was expected to announce late last night whether it would be open for business today, but members of the public would have to wait until 8.15am on Friday to find out about other websites, such as the Companies Office, registers for personal property securities, financial service providers and motor vehicle traders, and services for insolvency and trustees and radio spectrum management.
Name reservations and incorporations due to expire on Wednesday night, Thursday, and Friday have been rolled over to next Wednesday, as had authority and director consents in companies.
The ministry said that there was an "unexpected hardware issue on a piece of equipment housed in our datacentre".
