Murray & Co has hired former Morgan Stanley senior banker Philip Keith to join the firm’s investment banking team.
Originally from Auckland, Keith joined Morgan Stanley in London in 1998 and had a more than 15-year long career as part of Morgan Stanley’s investment banking team there and in Singapore, specialising in M&A. In that role he advised Rio Tinto on its defence against BHP Billiton’s 2007/8 NZ$210 billion hostile offer, among many other transactions across a range of sectors.
Keith returned to New Zealand in 2014, leaving Morgan Stanley as a managing director and head of the bank’s M&A team in Southeast Asia.
Earlier in his career, he worked at the New Zealand Treasury and as a Beehive advisor to then Finance Minister Rt. Hon Bill Birch.
Justin Murray, Murray & Co managing director, said the firm was delighted with the appointment.
“Philip’s track record positions him as one of the most experienced and credentialed investment bankers in New Zealand. Our investment banking team looks forward to leveraging his expertise and to working together with him to deliver excellent financial advice and solutions to Murray & Co’s clients, helping them to achieve their key financial and strategic objectives.”
