Auckland-based data analytics company Data Insight has taken out the top prize at this year’s Entrepreneurs’ Challenge, along with industrial waste conversion company Avertana.
Finalists for the $1m award included Tuatara Brewing, Burger Burger, I Love Ugly, Supreme Meats and NZ Deli.
Data Insight managing director Carmen Vicelich says the company has experienced rapid growth since its inception two years ago.
“It’s about being agile and flexible, and that’s where the opportunity is for new companies like ourselves. A lot of New Zealand companies are realising data isn’t something that’s in the back room and under-reported. It can be game changing, particularly if your competitor’s doing it and you’re not,” she says.
Roles such as chief data officer, which didn’t exist 15 years ago when Ms Vicelich started in the world of data analytics, will begin to appear more frequently in businesses, she says.
Listen to Ms Vicelich talk on NBR Radio about the importance of data analytics and how the prize money will help Data Insight to grow its domestic and offshore business opportunities.
