New chairman for Ports of Auckland


Ports of Auckland has appointed Richard Pearson as chairman and Wayne Walden as director.

Ports of Auckland has appointed Richard Pearson as chairman and Wayne Walden as director.

Current chairman John Lindsay, who has held the position since May 2009 will retire this December.

Former director Peter Dunlop has resigned from the board.

Mr Pearson has extensive experience in port operations and investment around the world.  He recently returned to New Zealand. His work overseas most recently included Hutchison Port Holdings Group managing director for Hong Kong International Terminals Ltd and managing director for the Europe division of President ECT Rotterdam.  He is presently Chairman of Wellington Electricity Distribution Network Holdings Ltd.

Mr Walden has had more than 30 years senior management experience in the liquor, wholesale and retail trades in New Zealand, and held a wide range of directorships. Currently, he is one of seven directors of TVNZ Ltd. He was previously managing director and shareholder of Farmers/Deka Ltd.

In the 2007 Queens Birthday Honours List, Mr Walden received an Officer of The New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM) Honour for services to business and the community.

Ports of Auckland is a wholly owned subsidiary of Auckland Council Investments.

Auckland Council Investments manages the council’s major equity investments, which are worth approximately $1.7 billion.

In addition to the council’s investment in Ports of Auckland, it owns 22.45% of the shares in Auckland International Airport Limited and 44% of the shares in Auckland Film Studios Limited. It also manages a diversified financial assets portfolio for the council.
