Karyn Scherer is to be the new deputy editor of The NZ Listener, APN announced this morning.

Reporting to long-standing Listener editor Pamela Stirling, Ms Scherer starts in her role on January 16. Listener has raised eyebrows in media circles over recent years, with five deputy editors coming and going over the past seven years. Ms Scherer's appointment is likely to indicate APN's long-term succession plan for Ms Stirling.

Ms Scherer, whose father Peter was a former NZ Herald editor, has been with APN for 15 years, during which time she has been editor of the Daily Post in Rotorua and the launch editor of the Herald's weekly magazine The Business.
