The Japanese are countering China’s high-profile diplomatic moves since its big leadership change with a flurry of official visits abroad.

China’s new leader, President Xi Jinping, was in the US at the weekend for a two-day summit meeting with President Obama in Palm Springs.

In contrast, Japan’s Shinzo Abe’s first visit to Washington DC earlier this year was put back by a month and restricted to one meeting and a working lunch.
