MasterCard NZ boss sees us ahead in some mobile payment areas - but behind in others

The good news: MasterCard is trialling its new e-wallet and mobile phone payment service, PayPass, in four countries, including Australia.

The bad: New Zealand isn’t one of them, despite one of the participating retailers, JB Hi-Fi, being trans-Tasman.

MasterCard country manager Albert Naffah told NBR ONLINE that New Zealand was left out because of our paucity of contact-less payments.

NBR knew of one – a coffee shop beside Vodafone’s corporate headquarters, deployed to help with a mobile payment trial.
