‘I dig robots, I make beats’ – says Nigel Stanford who has finally released his much-awaited audio-visual opus, which happens to feature robots, making beats.
Released in late 2017, Automatica has been three years in the making for the New York-based Kiwi whose previous work, Cymatics, met with resounding success and a worldwide following with millions of views on You Tube. In the Automatica video, Stanford is seen working with a roomful of KUKA industrial robots that appear to play guitars, piano and drums.
Music may be his first love but it was Stanford’s technical genius that helped Sam Morgan create Trade Me and pocket $80 million from its sale to Fairfax in 2008.
Now living in New York, the 45-year-old composer still owns a 20% slice of online retailer Mighty Ape and 33% of StarNow – the Wellington-based online talent agency that claims to have more than four million members worldwide.
Stanford keeps his devotees informed on Twitter, where he has 4500 followers, and he also has a presence on LinkedIn where he describes himself as ‘Boss man at John Stanford Music,’ adding that ‘I don’t know why I would join Linked In. But I did it anyway.’
