Butter price plunge widens July goods trade deficit

Annual trade deficit widens by $1 billion to $5.5b.

Four months of trade surpluses ended abruptly in July as butter volumes and prices halved and imports rose, Stats NZ reported.

The annual trade deficit widened by $1 billion to $5.5b, with exports up $2.9b to $59.1b and imports rising $3.8b to $64.5b.

The July trade deficit widened to $685
