China Construction Bank NZ appoints new chair

Former top government official and banker takes the role.

Mon, 18 Nov 2019

Dr Murray Horn has been appointed chair of China Construction Bank (NZ) Ltd.

Having served as chair of the risk committee on the board of China Construction Bank Corporation (Beijing) for six years, Dr Horn will bring significant experience with China’s second-largest bank to his new role in the New Zealand subsidiary.

“We are proud to appoint Dr Horn to chair the CCB New Zealand board and believe his experience with our global organisation and the New Zealand finance sector will bring strong leadership to the New Zealand subsidiary,” acting chair John Shewan said. Shewan has been in the chair since Dame Jenny Shipley’s retirement in March this year.

Dr Horn’s CV includes 19 years as a government official with the Treasury, including five years as secretary to the Treasury. This was followed by eight years with ANZ Banking Group, including four years as chief executive of the New Zealand operation and three years as managing director of ANZ’s global institutional banking.

Having served on the boards of a number of major New Zealand organisations including Telecom and Spark, Dr Horn was admitted as a chartered fellow of the Institute of Directors in 2017.
