US stocks gain most year-to-date since 1997

Stocks on Wall Street clocked up their best performance since 1997 in the three quarters ended September 30.

Bonds and commodities also rallied this year despite concerns over the US-China trade war and signs the slowing global economy is weighing on America’s domestic performance.
