TelstraClear senior manager Mathew Bolland* is leaving to join rival 2degrees.
Mr Bolland (pictured) is best known for his role as head of marketing and corporate affairs at TelstraClear.
But most recently he has been working as the telco’s head of “NBN [national broadband network]”engagement.” His official bio says Mr Bolland “leads TelstraClear’s strategy involving the government’s new broadband network initiative.”
Mr Bolland - who did not answer NBR’s call to his 029 mobile - is on leave pending his new role as head of corporate affairs at 2degrees.
2degrees head of corporate communications Bryony Hilless told NBR “Matt will be joining 2degrees in the near future and will work closely with [chief commercial officer] Bill McCabe.”
Mr McCabe deals with the Commerce Commission, politicians and others on regulatory issues such as mobile termination rates.
In all likelihood, Mr Bolland is not leaving behind a raft of Crown fibre work at TelstraClear.
Chief executive Allan Freeth, who is hostile to the concept of "network socialism,"as he calls it, recently said that if a nationwide fibre roll-out must take place, then Telecom's Chorus division is the outfit to do it.
* Mr Bolland's image was zapped from the TelstraClear leadership team page shortly after this article was posted.
