Vodafone has denied a persistent industry rumour that it's spreading its rural broadband bets.
"We are absolutely not one of the mystery bidders and only have submitted one bid with our partner Telecom," Vodafone GM of wholesale and new business Steve Rieger told NBR this evening.
Vodafone and Telecom have gone public with a joint bid for the government's $300 million rural broadband initiative, centered around the creation of a wholesale, open access network. TelstraClear said it supports the pair's bid.
The Regional Fibre Group, which is in discussions with Kordia and FX Networks, among others, has also confirme a bid.
That's two. Communications Minister Steven Joyce said five bids were submitted for the national-only tender. With Canada's Axia NetMedia having pulled out, that leaves some marginal candidates to fill out the field.
