Westfield retail group enters the first round of hearings with North Shore City Council today for approval to double the space of its Albany mall as part of its $500 million 10 year growth plan.
The shopping centre land is more than 20ha in total, and the portion which it is proposing to start works on soon is 4.5ha of the site.
A new street would be required to link it with nearby Civic Crescent, giving access to the parking building is part of Westfield’s proposal.
The retail portion of the extension would be 10,000sq m smaller than the existing shopping centre retail at 36,000sq m.
It would double the of park the mall offers, adding 2253 parking spaces to its existing 2369 spots.
The mall has cinemas, several banks and other mall usuals such as Whitcoulls and a Borders bookstore; fashions stores such as Glassons, Max, Portmans and Barkers, a Magnum Mac store with Apple produces, OPSM Optomestrists.
Westfield is working on a $33 million expansion at its Chartwell Mall in Waikato, which is due to be completed in January 2011.
