Cyclone Gabrielle adds to 2023 kiwifruit harvest woes

A series of unfortunate weather events have compounded sector issues with fruit quality and quantity.

Lower fruit volumes are expected this season.

The 2023 kiwifruit harvest kicked off last week in less than ideal circumstances following Cyclone Gabrielle. 

While the central crop region, the Bay of Plenty, got off lighter than the nearby Hawke’s Bay and Coromandel, growers still endured significant rainfall.
