Michael Hill picks agency for rebrand

Retailer Michael Hill has appointed Colenso BBDO as its ad agency after a world-wide pitch.

The move is believed to be a first for the retailer which had previously done its creative work in-house.

Colenso will work on a rebrand across New Zealand, Australia, Canada and the United States. The new work is expected to roll out next year.

This time last year Sir Michael Hill told NBR ONLINE the future of his company, which bears his name, lies in the US.

He said Australasia will be saturated within five years, so the company will look to the world’s biggest jewellery market, the US.

Colenso BBDO managing director Nick Garrett last week told NBR Print the agency had won an account from a business worth half a billion dollars but at the time declined to say which.

Colenso has now won eight of nine pitches this year.

Mr Garrett has said his focus will now be on existing clients and the company would probably  not pitch in the next 12-18 months.
