$2.7 million to lift achievement of at-risk students - Parata
Education Minister Hekia Parata says $2.7 million will be spent on new teaching hubs for at-risk students who are enrolled in Te Kura – the Correspondence School.
Ms Parata told TVNZ’s Q+A programme that the four year initiative will focus on up to 80 Year 9-11 students already enrolled at Te Kura and who don’t currently have face-to-face support.
The programme has been designed by Te Kura and will also offer work-placement opportunities.
“We are going to have four places in South Auckland, Hawkes Bay, Christchurch and New Plymouth where there will be a physical hub where the young people who are on correspondence school can go to.“
“We can’t keep doing all the things we’ve always done or we keep getting what we’ve always gotten.”
