2degrees nabs Waikato Uni from Telecom with 500-connection deal
Something of a milestone contract win for the once all-prepay provider.
Something of a milestone contract win for the once all-prepay provider.
2degrees has won a major mobile contract with the University of Waikato.
The deal covers more than 450 voice and data connections.
NBR Online understands Telecom and Vodafone were the incumbents, although with Telecom holding the bulk of the university's business.
The company would not immediately put a dollar value on the contract, but a spokeswoman confirmed it was one of the company's largest ever deals.
It is also 2degrees' largest win since it joined the All of Government (AoG) Mobile, Voice and Data supply contract last year (Telecom and Vodafone are also members of the AoG panel, which sees the Crown leveraging its bulk-buying power for discounts).
The deal is something of a milestone for 2degrees, which began as an all-prepay provider, but has evolved to offer contract and business plans.
In an August update last year, the company claimed 1 million customers, and said 100,000 of those were on contract.
