Yesterday, 2degrees launched its 3G service, but the focus was on mobile data plans, sold with 30, 60 and 90-day expiry dates.

Voice and txt options remain pre-pay only.

2degrees chief executive Eric Hertz said his company will launch post-paid plans by the end of the year (the same timeframe in which the company expects to open its own retail stores; read Want to run a 2degrees store? It'll cost ya).

Contracts are expected to mix and match voice, txt and data options a la Telecom and Vodafone.

On Tuesday, Vodafone announced a single-month contract deal, seemingly anticipating that 2degrees would introduce short-term or no-fixed-term post paid deals.

Vodafone wholesale partner Black+White launched with a focus on post-paid deals with no fixed term, focussing on the consumer market. However, as the MVNO switched its focus to the small to medium business market, founder Jonathan Eele said he found most companies actually prefer to be on-account.
