The establishment of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) is among the trade issues to be discussed at a meeting of Apec trade ministers in the United States next week.
The two-day meeting in Big Sky, Montana, from May 19 will bring together members from the 21 economies of the Asia Pacific Economic Co-operation forum to discuss Apec's trade agenda and other trade and investment issues.
New Zealand will be represented at the meeting by Apec Business Advisory Council members Tony Nowell and Gary Judd, as well as alternate member Stephen Jacobi, who is executive director of the New Zealand United States Council.
Mr Jacobi said he expected ministers from the nine economies in negotiations over the TPP would also meet to discuss progress on its establishment.
"TPP is a complex undertaking and it will be important for Ministers to give negotiators guidance if substantial progress is to made by the time of the Apec leaders' summit in Honolulu in November," he said.
