A story about former Hynds chief executive Rob Alloway published in NBR Online’s subscriber-only content on August 20, 2012, contained some errors of fact and incorrect inferences.
The headline and opening paragraph of the story wrongly suggested to readers that Mr Alloway was or may have been dismissed from or forced to leave Hynds.
NBR Online accepts this was not the case and regrets any such suggestion or impression.
Material for the story came primarily from a staff memo from Hynds chairman John Hynds, which stated Mr Alloway had agreed to step down from his current role as CEO of Hynds and contract back to the business working on Hynds’ growth strategy project for Waters & Farr.
Mr Hynds explained to NBR Online that Mr Alloway’s departure was “very amicable” and that Hynds were “very pleased with Rob’s contribution”.
NBR Online published comments in the story from an unidentified source which suggested Mr Alloway was or may have been dismissed or forced to leave Hynds and that there were reasonable grounds to suspect this was the case.
NBR Online accepts that these additional comments were wrong and factually incorrect.
Accordingly, NBR Online apologises to Mr Alloway for any imputation regarding his business fitness, skills and competence arising from the headline and parts of the article.
The story was available only to Online subscribers and has been removed from NBR’s website.
