Apple bumps up Mac Book Air specs, drops price
NZ pricing | Office for iPad gets printing.
Apple has refreshed its MacBook Air range, bumping up processor speed and chopping the prices by around $100.
Like the previous Airs, the refreshed models have processors based on Intel’s Haswell architecture — which is designed to increase performance without compromising battery life.
Like their predecessors, these 13-inch and 11-inch MacBook Air models offer 12 and 9 hours of battery life, respectively.
Across the board, the MacBook Air line now comes with a 1.4GHz Core i5 processor that can, with Turbo Boost, hit speeds of up to 2.7GHz; that’s up slightly from the 1.3GHz Core i5 found in previous MacBook Airs. Intel’s integrated HD Graphics 5000 chip remains standard, as does 4GB of memory and 128GB of flash storage, plus 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0.
The 11-inch model costs $1249 (all pricing $NZD) with a 128GB or $1499 with 256GB.
The 13-inch model costs $1399 with 128GB or $1649 with 256GB.
Again, as with its predecessor, optional upgrades on the Air include a 1.7GHz Core i7 processor, with Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz, for $245. A RAM upgrade to 8GB for $160. The higher-level 11-inch and 13-inch models can also upgrade to 512GB of flash storage for $480.
The new Airs are available from today. All pricing in $NZ.
Other Apple-related news today has seen Microsoft add printing capability to Office for iPad, filling the most conspicuous feature gap.
