Transport Minister Simon Bridges has made a series of appointments and reappointments to transport sector statutory bodies.
Nigel Gould has been reappointed Chair of the Civil Aviation Authority, Peter Griffiths as the Civil Aviation Authority’s (CAA) Deputy Chair and Jim Boult as a CAA board member.
“Mr Boult, Mr Gould and Mr Griffiths are high performing members of a strong team. They are involved in overseeing regulatory changes at CAA, and their reappointments will maintain continuity on the Board,” Mr Bridges says.
Mr Griffiths has been reappointed for a two-year term, and Mr Gould and Mr Boult have been reappointed for three years.
Mr Bridges has also reappointed Dr Martin Peterson as the Medical Convener for another three-year term.
“Dr Peterson is a highly specialised medical practitioner who is experienced and knowledgeable in civil aviation. He takes a methodical, evidence-based approach, and he has excellent qualifications and experience.”
In addition, Mr Bridges has appointed Fred McLay as a member of the Oil Pollution Advisory Committee.
“With his long history of working in the petroleum industry and with associated community stakeholders, Mr McLay brings a wealth of petroleum industry knowledge and business experience,” Mr Bridges says.
Nigel Gould
A chartered accountant and professional director, Mr Gould has been Chair of the Civil Aviation Authority Board since his appointment in April 2011. He is also a Commissioner of the Tertiary Education Commission, and was previously Chancellor of the Massey University Council.
Peter Griffiths
A professional director, Mr Griffiths was appointed as Deputy Chair of the Civil Aviation Authority Board in 2010. His directorships have included BP Oil NZ Ltd, Z Energy Ltd, and New Zealand Oil and Gas Ltd.
Jim Boult
Mr Boult was appointed to the Civil Aviation Authority Board in October 2013. He was Chief Executive of Christchurch International Airport Ltd for five years. In addition, he has considerable experience on private and public sector boards, not-for-profit boards, and brings commercial and financial management experience.
Dr Martin Peterson
Dr Peterson undertook his medical training in Germany. He has a PhD sponsored by the Occupational Medicine Department of the University of Ulm. He has worked as a hospital doctor in New Zealand, served in a medical capacity in the Royal New Zealand Air Force, the Occupational Health Doctor for New Zealand Aluminium Smelters Ltd at Tiwai Point, and has been admitted as a Fellow of the Australasian College of Aerospace Medicine.
Fred McClay
Mr McLay has been the Director of Resource Management at the Taranaki Regional Council for over ten years. In this capacity, he is responsible for the Council’s maritime oil spill planning and response. Prior to that he was Head of External Affairs at Shell Todd Oil Services Ltd.
