Experienced chairman to head up the bank's Investment Committee.
A new chairman has been appointed to the ASB Investment Committee – Gavin Walker, who is also the chairman of ASB Bank and the New Zealand Superannuation Fund.
Mr Walker takes over from ASB’s general counsel Graeme Edwards, who has been acting chairman following the departure of Blair Turnbull at the end of last year. Mr Edwards remains on the committee as a member.
The investment committee decides the investment objectives, strategies and policies for ASB’s investment offers, including its KiwiSaver scheme.
Mr Walker – a former director of BT Investment Management – has more than 20 years’ investment experience in the fund management industry, and has made a significant contribution to the bank already, ASB chief executive Barbara Chapman said in a statement.
Mr Walker was the founding chief executive and a director of the Bankers Trust New Zealand until 1996, after which he led the Bankers Trust Investment Bank in Sydney.
He is also chairman of two other CBA subsidiaries, Sovereign Assurance and CommSec, the chairman of Kirin International Advisory Board and the Ultra-Fast Broadband Steering Committee, and a director of Lion Pty and Walker Consulting Group.
