Auckland bus drivers' dispute ends
NZ Bus drivers agree to a two-year collective agreement.
After six months of negotiations, including strike threats, NZ Bus drivers have agreed to a two-year collective agreement.
Karl Andersen of First Union, speaking for the combined bus unions, says two-thirds of members voted to accept the agreement, which includes a staged pay rise to $20 an hour.
"The money is fine; it's not outstanding. It doesn't mean to say as an industry they're well enough paid."
NZ Bus chief operating officer Shane McMahon says in a statement the company is improving its "culture", with investment in health and safety, training, new and upgraded facilities and new fleet.
Infratil-owned NZ Bus runs more than 650 buses in Auckland, covering some 200 routes.
Infratil shares (NZX: IFT) are down half a cent, to $2.185, in early trading today, after starting the year at $1.88.
