The number of residential properties sold in Auckland by real estate agency Barfoot & Thompson was up last month to the highest level seen since June 2007.
The average sale price achieved in March was up $53,000 on the same time in 2009 to $545,156, up 4.6% from February.
“Seasonally, March is always among the stronger sales months, and this year was no exception,” Barfoot & Thompson managing director Peter Thompson said.
“You have to go back to March 2007 to find a month when the combination of average price and sales numbers was higher that what we achieved last month.”
The real estate agency sold 927 Auckland homes in March, and in that month it had 1671 new listings.
Listings website realestate.co.nz saw a rise in new listings in March too, up 26% from the same time a year earlier. The average asking price for properties on the website was climbing 1% each month on average.
The number of rental properties Barfoot & Thompson signed tenants to new leases for in March was up 11.1% on the same time last year, and up 16.7% from February this year. The average weekly rent was $401, up $11 from February.
