Duncan Garner

Duncan Garner is a weekly columnist for NBR. He mainly shares his opinion on politics, as well as business and wider issues affecting our society.

Duncan hosts a daily podcast for Mediaworks. He is a former host of Today FM’s radio show and prior to that hosted The AM Show on TV Three where he braved five years of 3am alarms before common sense took over. Before that he hosted Three’s 7pm Story programme and hosted Radio Live’s Drive Show. He’s spent the majority of his 25-year media career in Wellington’s Parliamentary Press Gallery where he served seven years as TV Three’s political editor.

He has won numerous journalism awards including winning the 2007 TV Journalist of the Year title at the Qantas Media Awards; the 2017 Best Talk Presenter at the NZ Radio Awards; and he won the 2017 Opinion Writer of the Year prize at the Canon Media Awards.

Duncan says he loves writing and giving readers a clear, concise and at times controversial insight into the big issues and the people who somehow got to be in charge of making those calls.

Duncan is a former winner of the NBR best dressed award. He says he has no idea how and who was behind the decision saying he believes they were never again given such an important job.

In his spare time, Duncan serves the demands of his children who rarely go fishing with him these days due to a lack of success.
