AVG board appoints CEO to permanent position
On the back of a bumper year internet security provider AVG has announced the permanent appointment of its chief executive J.R Smith.
On the back of a bumper year internet security provider AVG has announced the permanent appointment of its chief executive J.R Smith.
As of December, more than 110 million users have either downloaded the company’s free software or have bought its anti-virus programmes. Due to this, the company has appointed Mr Smith as the permanent chief executive of AVG.
Mr Smith has been in the job for three years already.
AVG chairman Dale Fuller said; “The board initially believed that the market would place a higher value on a chief executive who had experience taking companies through public offerings, and, as such, we undertook the task of a search for that person.
“We interviewed hundreds of candidates for the role. After AVG’s banner results again in 2009, it became overwhelmingly clear that J.R’s vision, drive for success and ability to execute are far more valuable to the company and we need his leadership to take is to the next step and beyond.”
Mr Fuller said under Mr Smith’s leadership the company has grown its revenues by 75% and continues to dominate the online security market. This week NBR reported that AVG’s free software was the most downloaded software on CNET’s website.
“His (Mr Smith’s) vision, drive for success and ability to execute are critical to the company as it moves into its next phases of growth and we are delighted that he has agreed to take us there,” Mr Fuller said.
Mr Smith said the online market offered an exponential opportunity. “2010 is going to be an exciting year for us and I am proud to continue to lead AVG into new territory that helps protect the world online, one person at a time,” he said.
