BAGNALL, Andrew

Life in the fast lane came at a cost for Andrew Bagnall in early 2018 when the 71-year-old broke a pelvis and several ribs after being rear-ended and crashing in a chaotic Bathurst 12-hour race.

A professional motor racing driver since the 1980s, Bagnall’s initial fortune came from the Gulliver’s Travel Group he founded in 1976 and sold out of 30 years later. His biggest investment now is a 30.93% stake worth around $60m in the publicly listed Green Cross Health.

With 354 pharmacies under the Unichem and Life Pharmacy brands along with 39 medical centres, 300 doctors and 340 nurses, Green Cross also has more than 20,000 clients through Access Community Health. However, the 2017/18 financial year was not a happy one due to having to meet a pay equity shortfall, which reduced the annual profit by 15% to $16.8m on improved revenue of $522m.

With a commerce degree from Otago University and an MBA from Michigan State University, Bagnall co-developed the upmarket Remuera Gardens Retirement Village and has numerous financial interests which are managed through his private investment company, Segoura.

Expected to recover fully from his Bathurst injuries, Bagnall jets about in a $US65 million Gulfstream G650 – the biggest and fastest private jet money can buy – and he lives in a Herne Bay property with a rateable value of $18.5m.
