Not only will people be hit by an increase in GST on Friday but those who need to increase automatic payments may find they are hit by a bank fee depending which bank they are with.

All sorts of services will be affected by the GST change such as power and gas bills, gym memberships, pay television and telephone bills.

ANZ and National Bank do not charge fees for alterations on either online or telephone banking, and while the Bank of New Zealand does, it is waiving them for the month. It normally charges $3.50.

Kiwibank will continue to charge its $2 internet alteration fee.

Most banks have much higher fees -- up to $5 -- if alterations are done at a branch.

Westpac did not respond to NZPA calls.
