Prominent Auckland lawyer Barry Hart’s family farm is under mortgagee sale.

ANZ National is understood to be the mortgagor of the 1000ha property near Waimuku.

Mr Hart, a crime barrister, recently lost a long legal fight for name suppression in the face of misconduct charges laid against him by the New Zealand Law Society.

The standards committee of the law society has him on the mat with four allegations of grossly overcharging a criminal he defended by $35,000.

A disciplinary hearing in February was delayed because a witness had been appointed a district court judge. But the new judge is expected to provide evidence when the case against Mr Hart resumes.

Meanwhile, the Hart property for sale is subdivided into several blocks including Renall’s Farm and five lifestyle blocks.

Bayleys is managing the sale by tender.

Mr Hart, who has defended many high profile criminals, successfully obtained name suppression in February for a prominent developer caught up in a police drugs raid on an Auckland apartment.
