High profile Auckland barrister Barry Hart is being accused of misconduct by the New Zealand Law Society.
Disciplinary hearings on the matter begin on Monday, February 20.
Mr Hart lost his bid for name suppression in a Supreme Court ruling released yesterday. The high-profile barrister claimed publication of his name would cause damage to his professional reputation and cause stress to members of his family.
The Law Society tribunal had refused name suppression, but Mr Hart had appealed that decision to the High Court, the Court of Appeal and finally the Supreme Court.
Mr Hart also sought a judicial review of the Law Society’ investigation.
The Court of Appeal ruling said the judicial review was unlikely to succeed “given the lack of any obvious merit” and delays caused by repeated filings were unwelcome. “A long delay would not be in the public interest, particularly if Mr Hart’s name were suppressed,” the ruling said.
