BNZ is trying to locate four staff still unaccounted for after the Christchurch quake (out of 487 in the Canterbury region and 5000 nationwide.)

The missing employees are Kristina Pamatangi , Lorraine Griffiths, Marilyn Mulholland and Toyon Lee.

A spokesman told NBR that social media has been one of the main vehicles the bank has used to find missing staff so far.

"We've found two staff by posting on our own Facebook page, and have been able to use Facebook and our Twitter account to search for news of others. We've had a huge response via Twitter with people trying to help us locate these staff members and are currently working on the last four staff that we haven't been able to get in touch with," the spokesman said.

"With the heavy demand for cash, we've had a lot of interest in the current status of our ATMs and Twitter has been perfect for this.

"We've been monitoring the status of BNZ ATMs in the area and I've been updating the 'working ATMs' map at www.eq.org.nz".
