The Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority has announced the firms that will develop a blueprint for Christchurch’s central city rebuild.

Boffa Miskell has been chosen as the lead company in a consortium which includes representatives from Populous, Woods Bagot, Sheppard and Rout, Warren and Mahoney and RCP.

The rebuild plan is being developed by the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority's Central Christchurch Development Unit headed by Warwick Isaacs, who formerly oversaw demolitions.

It has 100 days from the date of its appointment three weeks ago to write the blueprint.

It will overlap with funding decisions in Christchurch City’s normal annual plan process now undergoing public consultation.

But while the city must come up with the debt and ratepayer-funded financial plan, final decisions on the location and design of key facilities like a convention centre will be made by the Central Christchurch Development Unit.

The contract awarded yesterday is in the order of $1 million, although additional costs may be identified as the 100-day programme proceeds.

The Boffa Miskell-led team will be based within CCDU at the CERA headquarters. Their work starts today.

The blueprint is scheduled to be released on Friday, July 27.
