The famous Boston Marathon has ended in tragedy after two bombs went off near the finish line, leaving at least three people dead and more than 140 injured.
A massive manhunt has been launched.
CNN reports the explosions took place at 2.45pm local time, about two hours after the first competitors crossed the finish line. Reports are conflicting over whether a third blast occured at the JFK library.
Boston police confirm at least three people are dead and 140-plus injured.
Authorities have reportedly discovered at least one unexploded bomb. The 27,000-strong marathon field included 45 Kiwis but MFAT has confirmed they are all safe.
Former Alliance MP Laila Harre told RadioLive she had only just crossed the finish line and was a couple of hundred metres away when the bombs went off.
