Passenger numbers through Auckland Airport rose firmly in September, with numbers from China almost a quarter ahead of a year earlier in a rebound from a period affected by the H1N1 pandemic.
Figures from the airport today put the number of international arrivals last month up 4 percent from September 2009 to 263,530, while international departures gained 5.9 percent to 270,482.
For the September quarter, the first of the company's financial year, international arrivals were up 4.4 percent and international departures up 4.8 percent.
Domestic passenger numbers were up 4.3 percent for the month to 525,301, and up 4.1 percent for the quarter to 1.55 million.
The rise in domestic numbers was on the back of continued increases in flight volumes, the airport said today.
Domestic aircraft movements rose 1.1 percent to 9261 last month, while international movements were up 3.1 percent to 3544.
Passenger numbers from China were up 24.3 percent from a year earlier to 7497 last month, and were up 65.5 percent for the quarter to 24,800.
Those from Australia lifted 2.4 percent for the month to 52,617, although for the quarter it fell 1.4 percent to 139,693.
Numbers from the United States edged up 1 percent in September to 8288 although falling 3.9 percent for the quarter to 28,481, while passengers from Britain fell 14.3 percent to 8083 for the month and was down 15.5 percent to 23,380 for the quarter.
