Taika Waititi’s coming-of-age comedy Boy is on track to become one of the highest grossing New Zealand films of all time.

Last week, it just edged out American holiday blockbuster Clash of the Titans to take in $1.24 million.

Boy's total box office take, after just two weeks, is now $2.13 million, out-pacing such local commercial hits as Whale Rider, Once Were Warriors and The World's Fastest Indian at the 14-day mark.

Notably, attendance increased during its second week of release, indicating good word of mouth.

Excluding the Lord of the Rings trilogy, there are two Kiwi movies New Zealand's all Time Top 20 box office hits, The World's Fastest Indian (number 16 with $6.9 million and Once Were Warriors at number 20 with $6.6 million).

The number one of all time is Avatar, with $16.8 million.
