Dry year risk looms again as Tiwai agrees power cut
Meridian calls on 50MW demand response from NZ Aluminium Smelters.
Meridian's contract with NZ Aluminium Smelters includes options to call for reduced consumption.
The Tiwai Point aluminium smelter will reduce its power consumption by 50MW this winter to help manage dry year risk.
In a statement to the NZX, electricity supplier Meridian said the agreed reduction by NZ Aluminium Smelters would start from March 10 and run to August 31.
