NBR offers university students free access in 2026

Publishers committed to inspiring the next generation of business leaders at no cost.

NBR Staff Fri, 27 Feb 2026

The National Business Review is once again offering free access to its award-winning political and business news and analysis to thousands of university students across the country.

This is the third year in a row the publication has offered free premium access to all its content – valued at $499 a year – for all students at any New Zealand university.

NBR has continued to deliver award-winning journalism, ranging from scoops and investigations to yearly staples such as our flagship NBR Rich List (celebrating its 40th anniversary this year). We expanded the NBR Focus category,  providing you with several week-long, in-depth series providing commentary on influential industries, advisers, and issues affecting New Zealand business. Next week, we’ll be launching our first Focus series of 2026 – a preview of what policies the business community wants to see in this year’s general election.

Thousands of students across the country have taken up NBR's offer of a free subscription in the last two years, and its success – and support from our valued member subscribers – means we are offering it once again.

Students can sign up here.

We are doing this because NBR is committed to inspiring the next generation of business leaders. The best way to nurture that ambition is by providing university students with serious independent business news and analysis, at no cost.

Alongside this, NBR is again partnering with the University of Auckland Investment Club, providing content for its Bulletin online magazine and publishing selected pieces of its work on NBR. We also invite students at other universities to contact us at editor@nbr.co.nz about contributing work during 2026.

NBR is proudly 100% subscriber funded, with no advertising, sponsorship, or government funding.
